Add New User Accounts

CRC uses the University account username and password for CRC user account creation and access authentication. If a Pitt researcher (PI) would like to provide their students, lab staff, or external collaborators access to the CRC ecosystem under their SLURM and storage allocations, they can do so through the Sponsored Account mechanism.

Users with valid Pitt credentials

PIs can submit the general help ticket form with Purpose of Submission: Add a user to my allocation selected, providing the full name and Pitt username (easily found from their assigned email, if you find the information there please make sure they have not aliased their email) of the user and we will create the CRC user account. Only PIs and users they have assigned delegate status can submit this webform.

Sponsorship for external users without Pitt credentials

Requests for a "sponsored" account at the university level should be directed to the Pitt IT help desk. Once the sponsored account is created and assigned pitt credentials, we can create a CRC user account to provide the external collaborator access. In practice, the external collaborator is treated as a member of the Sponsor's group and can access the allocation resources within that group. The Sponsored Account typically lasts for 1 year. The Sponsor assumes responsibility for renewing the account.

Alumni users who are graduating, leaving the university, etc

If your pitt credentials are expiring, you can retain access to your CRC user account by working with your supervisor to request a sponsored account from Pitt IT. For alumni, you will need to convert your Alumni Account to a Sponsored Account. Postdocs and other lab staff leaving for other positions also need to request sponsored status through Pitt IT.

Faculty that are leaving the university cannot retain their faculty SLURM account, storage allocation, etc. but they can retain access to CRC resources as a sponsored user under another active PI's allocation. In this scenario, the Sponsor PI should request transitioning the faculty account to a Sponsored Account. CRC will then migrate the account into the Sponsor's group/allocation. The migration involves reassigning the data to be under the Sponsor's group; the faculty will retain ownership of the data.
